Abstract

A brief analysis of laughter and its definitions throughout history, the observation of different societies and the type of laughter they produced can offer an interesting perspective about human thought, social nature, and the relations created between them. If in Antiquity and in the golden centuries of the Christian Church, laughter presented something degrading in itself, even if its physiological benefits could not be denied, in the Modern Age and especially in contemporaneity, laughter is beginning to be given the place of honor that it deserves in this popular branch of the human sciences that is gradually separating from philosophy, namely psychology.
